Veggie Protein Boost

Protein, Protein, Protein. It's the featured item of most meals and a buzz word in healthy eating, along with plant based diet; but, quality protein does not always mean chowing down on meat - beef, pork, poultry or seafood.

Did you know some of your favorite vegetables have significant amounts of protein?

Vegetable based protein is not all about tofu, and 'soybeaned' fake meat. It's easy to consume more protein, cut fat, and add fiber with a boost of high protein vegetables, and other produce like beans and whole grains. If you are a total carnivore and love your meat, load-up on plant based protein and add meat as an accent flavor!

For fitness fans and gym goers, protein builds muscles. And, various studies suggest high protein plant based additions to diets are great for weight control.

SOME HIGH PROTEIN VEGETABLES

- Asparagus
- Fresh Beans (Lima, Cranberry, Fava)
- Broccoli
- Kale
- Brussel Sprouts (roasted with paprika
  and cumin...oh so nom, nom)

- Corn (Farm Fresh at HHFM)

- Green Peas

- Mushrooms

- Potatoes (that's right!)

- Spinach (Popeye the Sailor was on to something)

Veggie and Grain Bowls are trending with foodies and are so easy to make at home. Top whole grains and beans with one or more high protein veggies - cooked or raw. Add flavor with fresh herbs and spices. Add a small portion of meat as an accent.
